About 15 years ago a friend of mine had their home inspected by a licensed professional that was recommended to them by their real estate sales professional. My friend who trusted these two professionals, was about to learn a lesson that he would never forget.

I've worked in the construction business for over three decades and I've seen a lot of things that weren't right or fair to the homeowners, construction workers, contractors and even the project managers. What I'm about to share with you isn't new and as a matter of fact, people have been doing this for years. It's called making an assumption that you're getting a bargain or that people are honest.

My friend didn't know it at the time, but the home inspector missed some structural foundation damage and this was going to cost the homeowner a lot of money. You're probably thinking that the real estate professional in the home inspector got together and helped with the repairs or felt obligated in some way, but you're wrong. They didn't want anything to do with it and told him that it wasn't their fault, they were doing the best job that they could and they couldn't be held liable for any of his problems.

Here's the message I'm trying to drive home, if you don't know anything about home inspections, I would recommend that you find someone who does or use a home inspection checklist. There's got to be some books you can read or something that will help you to avoid problems like these in the future.
