In this day and age it is very common for individuals to relocate to Toronto for work purposes. As Toronto is becoming what we call "The New York of Canada," it is a city that is frequently accommodating relocates. This can be a tremendous change when you have a family. Not only must you consider the effects on yourself but you have to take into consideration the effect it can have on your family. The first thing you have to consider when relocating to Toronto is the area that is best suited for yourself and family. If your job entails you to be working in the downtown core, you will most likely find yourself looking for a home in the suburbs of Toronto. There are many beautiful areas in Mississauga and Oakville that are perfect for raising a family and that are only a short walk to the train. With rush hour traffic proving to be a problem for commuters, the train is a better option for commuting to work everyday. Many of the areas found in the outskirts of Toronto are located close to schools which should also be taken into consideration when choosing the area for your family. Another thing that should be researched when relocating with your family is the demographics of the area. Choosing an area where there are young families with children can prove to make your relocation an easier transition for your children. It is very important to consider the effects of relocating to another city in the middle of your child's school year. If possible, try and plan to move during the summer break. This simple action can help your children adjust easier to a new home and area. Chances are they will make friends during the summer break, making starting school in September a lot easier and enjoyable. Don't forget to create a sense of excitement for your family when you announce that you will be moving to Toronto. Even though it can be stressful for everyone, try and paint it as a new adventure for your family. We all know kids love adventures! Joy Paterson |
